How to Clean The Screen Basket When Its Clogged?

Handling of Pressure Screen Basket Clogging

The screen basket is the core equipment in the pressure screen, responsible for separating impurities in the pulp. After long-term use, it is prone to clogging problems due to fiber agglomeration, sediment residue, etc., which affects the screening efficiency. When cleaning, it can be done in three steps:

  1. After shutdown, use high-pressure water flushing method first. Adjust the pressure to 8-10 megapascals, use a high-pressure water gun to align with the sieve holes of the screen basket, gradually flush from the inside out, and use the water flow impact force to disperse the fiber clusters and small impurities attached to the sieve holes. For screen basket with dense sieve holes, a rotating nozzle can be used to ensure that each sieve hole is covered by water flow.
  2. Secondly, for stubborn blockages, chemical soaking method can be used. After disassembling the screen basket, soak it in a 2% sodium hydroxide solution for 2-3 hours. The alkaline solution can soften fiber clumps and glial impurities, and then rinse with high-pressure water to easily clean residual stains. Pay attention to protection during soaking to avoid contact between the solution and the skin. After soaking, rinse repeatedly with clean water to prevent alkaline residue from affecting the quality of subsequent pulp.
  3. In pressure screen basket daily maintenance, a backwash device can be installed to automatically backwash the screen basket for 10-15 minutes before each shutdown, reducing impurities from the source. In addition, regularly check the wear of the screen basket. If the sieve holes are deformed or enlarged, they should be replaced in a timely manner to avoid an increase in the frequency of blockage caused by abnormal sieve holes. Through these methods, blockages can be quickly cleared and the service life of the screen basket can be extended, ensuring the stable operation of the pulp making process.

Special Anti-Clogging Pressure Screen Basket Designs for High-Viscosity Materials

When dealing with materials containing high viscosity substances, ordinary screen basket are indeed prone to clogging due to material adhesion. To alleviate this problem, a special screen basket with a “self-cleaning” structure can be used. This type of screen basket will have small protrusions or patterns with a certain inclination angle on the surface of the sieve plate. When the material moves inside the screen basket, these structures can continuously scrape the viscous material, reducing its adhesion to the sieve holes and sieve plate surface.

At the same time, some screen basket will also adopt a variable diameter sieve hole design, with the diameter of the sieve holes gradually increasing slightly from the feeding end to the discharging end. This way, the squeezing force experienced by viscous materials during movement gradually changes, making it less likely for them to accumulate and block in large quantities at a certain position.

In addition, using special coatings with lower surface energy, such as fluorine-containing coatings, can reduce the adhesion between the material and the surface of the screen basket, further reducing the occurrence of blockage.
