Design and Welding Structure of Slotted Screen Basket

The slotted screen basket is the core component of a pressure screen and plays a decisive role in pulp screening efficiency. screen basket has also undergone a transformation from circular hole type to plate milling seam type, and finally to the widely used widely used rod type. Compared with conventional designs, the rod-welded inner and outer slotted screen basket features excellent rotational adaptability and structural stability. Its unique rod welding process significantly reduces the overall weight of the screen basket, thereby lowering energy consumption during operation. In addition, this slotted screen basket design allows only the severely worn lower section to be replaced instead of the entire basket, effectively reducing maintenance costs and extending service life, achieving efficient and economical pulp processing.

Innovation in Rod Welding Process of Slotted Screen Basket

As shown in Figures 1 and 2, the unique design of this welded inner and outer screen basket lies in the arrangement of multiple vertical rods evenly spaced around the circumference, forming the screen basket. The top is equipped with an upper flange to stabilize the top of the rod, while the bottom is equipped with a lower flange to ensure the stability of the bottom of the rod. In the middle, multiple middle rings are arranged from top to bottom to fix the middle of the rod. This rod welding structure enables the slotted screen basket to be used for both internal screening, where pulp flows from the inside of the screen basket to the outside, and external screening, where pulp flows from the outside of the screen basket to the inside. In both configurations, the movement of pulp across the screen surface is defined as the pulp flow direction, ensuring consistent screening performance under different operating conditions.

Design Features of Inner and Outer Rings

For an inner-flow slotted screen basket, the vertical rods are inserted into the slots on the inner wall of the middle ring. The middle ring design of the inner and outer screen basket enhances the stability of the structure. These vertical rods are cleverly divided into drainage and installation sections in the direction of pulp flow. After welding, the installation part is inserted into the slot, and the width of the drainage part is larger than that of the installation part in the circumferential direction, thus forming a unique screening gap between adjacent slots.

Wear Resistance and Diversity Design

To improve durability and wear resistance, the inner top surface of the slotted screen basket is treated with a wear-resistant coating, effectively extending service life under abrasive operating conditions. Meanwhile, by welding the top middle ring onto the upper flange, the bottom middle ring onto the lower flange, and correspondingly welding the top and bottom of the vertical slots onto the upper and lower flanges, the structural stability of the slotted screen basket is further ensured. The composite design of the middle ring has improved its strength. In addition, the design of vertical rods also has diversity, including four different structural types: D, E, F, and G. These different types of combinations can be flexibly selected according to different pulp fiber lengths and process conditions, ensuring efficient screening.
