What is Drilled Screen Basket? It Different From Slotted Screen Basket

The drilled screen basket is significantly different from the slotted screen basket. Its surface is covered with uniform, precisely machined round holes. In the pulping process, the drilled screen basket is still installed inside the pressure screen to separate materials based on their diameter. The uniform holes on its surface are used to screen different materials. The size and shape of the holes have a direct impact on the screening results.

Drilled Screen Basket Type

Ripple Drilled Screen Basket

Ripple hole screen basket can be used in coarse screening, fine screening, pre-net screening and other positions, especially for higher pulp concentration and longer fiber pulp, the effect is better. It is necessary to use corrugated hole sieve on rotary drum screen and knot screen; Using an inflow corrugated hole screen basket for pre-net pressure screen can also achieve better results.

Drilled Screen Basket with Turbulence Strip

The addition of turbulence strips inside the corrugated hole external flow screen has been widely used. Due to different usage requirements, different interference distribution forms are adopted to achieve different usage effects.

Pressure Screen Basket FAQS

How to Determine If the Pressure Screen Basket Needs to be Replaced?

To determine whether a pressure screen basket requires replacement, one should assess its condition regarding wear and tear. If the screen hole become enlarged, deformed, or suffer severe damage to their edges, the precision and effectiveness of the screening process will be adversely affected; at this point, replacement should be considered.

The flow rate of the material is also a critical indicator; if the passage speed of the slurry slows down significantly, or if the screened slurry contains an excessive amount of impurities that fail to meet quality standards, this indicates a decline in the screen basket’s performance, necessitating its replacement.

If the pressure screen basket itself has cracks or loose connections, it will inevitably affect the operation and should be replaced in time.

In addition, although the appearance of the pressure screen basket is fine, it has been used for a long time under high intensity and has exceeded its expected service life. In order to ensure work efficiency and quality, it is recommended to replace it in time.

How to Optimize the Pressure Screen Basket to Improve Screening Efficiency?

The inherent structure of the pressure screen basket is the key to improving screening efficiency; therefore, the size and distribution of the screen apertures must be determined judiciously. Its pores can reduce the possibility of slurry clogging. Appropriately increasing the sieve aperture size can increase the slurry throughput, but screening accuracy must be ensured.

Secondly, when adjusting the tilt angle and amplitude of the pressure screen basket, a larger tilt angle and appropriate amplitude are beneficial for the slurry to pass through the screen surface quickly, thereby increasing the screening speed.

Increasing the screen surface area is also essential for enhancing processing capacity; during the design phase, this can be achieved by incorporating multi-layer screen surfaces or by increasing the drum’s diameter.

Concurrently, it is necessary to consider the flow characteristics of the slurry and optimize the internal flow-guiding structures to fully utilize the available screen surface area, thereby maximizing screening efficiency and meeting production requirements.

Safe Operation of the Pressure Screen Basket

Before operating the pressure screen basket, it should be filled with water to prevent water impact from damaging the drum. At the same time, the pressure and flow of the sealing water should be checked, and any blockages should be dealt with promptly. Simultaneously, check the pressure and flow of the sealing water; if the pressure screen basket becomes clogged, address the issue immediately.

When starting the system, first activate the pressure screen, and then start the pulp pump.

The screen cover must only be opened when the pressure screen is completely depressurized.

When performing repairs, disconnect the power supply and affix a warning tag to the switch.

Details Often Overlooked During Pressure Screen Basket Installation

During the installation of the pressure screen basket, special attention must be paid to the fit accuracy between it and the screen frame. If the clearance between the two is excessive, it will result in significant wobbling and vibration during the screening process; this not only accelerates wear on the pressure screen basket but may also lead to uneven slurry distribution, thereby compromising screening quality.

Ensure that the axis of the pressure screen basket aligns perfectly with the operational axis of the equipment during installation; this prevents the drum from being subjected to additional eccentric forces during high-speed rotation, which would otherwise shorten its service life.

During operation, it is recommended to maintain a uniform slurry feed. If a large volume of slurry is concentrated onto a specific area of the pressure screen basket, it will subject that section to excessive localized pressure, potentially causing deformation of the screen slots or even rupturing the screen basket.

Regular cleaning of the screen slots is also critical; clogging leads to reduced screening efficiency, while the long-term accumulation of materials can exert corrosive effects on the screen.

Avoid running the pressure screen basket empty, as this will cause the screen basket to vibrate and accelerate its wear.
